About
Jake Flaherty
Independent Bullhorn systems operator. I help staffing and recruiting agencies close the gap between buying Bullhorn and actually running the business through it.
How Source Layer started
My background spans more than 12 years across sales, sales leadership, staffing operations, business development, product, workflow improvement, and client-facing systems work.
Source Layer began when a staffing agency asked me to look at a Bullhorn environment the team wasn't getting full use out of. What started as an investigation became a full cleanup and operating-system rebuild.
I learned the system deeply, mapped how the agency actually worked, repaired the data and workflows, and created the standards and training required to make the improvements last.
That work became Source Layer.
What the work looks like
Today, Source Layer helps staffing and recruiting agencies clean up the messy Bullhorn environments that slow their teams down: records and taxonomy, lead/contact structure, workflows, reporting, documentation, and the training that makes it all stick.
The work is practical. I look at how your business actually runs, where things get stuck, what your team is avoiding, and what needs to be simplified. Then I clean up the structure, clarify the workflows, and make the tools easier to trust and use.
I'm not here to sell complexity back to you. I'm here to help you understand what's broken, what matters, what can be ignored, and what needs to be fixed first. The goal is simple: get you and your team out of the weeds so the business can run with less confusion, less rework, and less dependence on messy workarounds.
How I work
Five working principles
- Operator firstI do the work in the system, not just write recommendations about it.
- Fixed scope over open metersYou should know what a project costs before it starts.
- Plain languageIf a recruiter can't understand the new standard in one read, the standard is wrong.
- Adoption is the deliverableA clean database nobody uses is just a tidier failure. The job isn't done until the team's habits change.
- Practical AI, sparinglyI use AI tooling where it genuinely speeds up cleanup and documentation work, and nowhere it doesn't.
What I'm not
I'm not a Bullhorn employee, partner, or certified reseller. I'm an independent operator who works on your side of the table. I'm not a strategy firm, and I won't hand you a deck where a fix should be. And I'm not tech support or a software tutor. I fix the structure, then teach your team to run it.
Talk to me about your system
The call is free and the read is honest, including "you don't need me for this" when that's true.
